The Lowdown: Home to the women of Park Slope, complete with scones and beer.
Lesbians everywhere! Lesbian owned, operated, and populated, this de facto Park Slope nerve center offers coffee, tea, beer, snacks, poetry, benefits, live performances and sweaty softball teams celebrating post-game. A great feeling of community permeates the place and makes the beer taste better.
Carry Nation
Location: 363 Fifth Ave (5th), Park Slope, Brooklyn
Phone #: 718-788-0924
Hours: Daily 6pm-4am
Credit Cards: None
Pricing: Inexpensive
The Lowdown: Flannel shirts and dollar drafts.
Carry Nation is a neighborhood bar. The neighborhood just happens to be "Dyke" Slope, so, logically, the locals at this bar are all lesbians who appreciate the trappings of a comfortable drinking establishment like a pool table, jukebox, cheap beer, and hanging out with other neighborhood dykes. What more could you ask for?
Crazy Nanny's
Location: 21 Seventh Avenue South (Leroy)
Phone #: 212-366-6312
Hours: Daily 4pm-late, happy hour 4pm-7pm
Credit Cards: None
Pricing: Inexpensive
The Lowdown: Two-tiered bar for the rough and ready dyke. Dancing optional.
Nanny's, as it's affectionately known, serves the more craggy edge of lesbian nightlife. Its ground floor houses a no-frills, masculine pool table that's always in use, and its second floor is home to a video wall, dance floor, and boutique bar. The entertainment tends a bit to the cheesy, but its always fun. Large Latina crowds appear for specialty dance nights, and then there's always the occassional go-go dancer.

The Lowdown: Closest thing to a small lesbian "pub."
This cozy local hangout is almost always filled with handsome women and good music which is loud enough to enjoy, but soft enough for holding a conversation. Christmas decorations are up seemingly year-round which give the small bar a sense that a party is just about to happen - but it's always a relaxed hang out with your buddies kind of party. You can even have a Bloody Mary on a Sunday afternoon and call it brunch while reading your Sunday paper...
Henrietta Hudson
Location: 438 Hudson St (Morton)

Hours: Mon-Fri 3pm-4am, Sat-Sun 1pm-4am, happy hour Mon-Fri 5pm-7pm
Credit Cards: Amex, MC, Visa
Pricing: Moderate
The Lowdown: Where every dyke knows your name/And they're always glad you came...
Henrietta's is "the old standby" with an excellent jukebox, worldly bartenders, and eclectic crowd. A great wood-paneled tavern for cruising for femmes while playing pool, or for watching the women with real biceps shoot it. Henrietta's also serves up lite bites at several sidewalk tables during the warmer months and hosts live lesbian comedians (who don't have their own sitcoms yet) on Tuesdays.
Julie's
Location: 204 E 58th St (Second/Third)
Phone #: 212-688-1294
Hours: Daily noon-2am, happy hour 5pm-7pm
Credit Cards: None
Pricing: Moderate
The Lowdown: Upscale professional women's bar.
This haven for the business suit set tries to be elegant, but its peach walls and monotonous wallpaper give it more of a hotel bar feel. Despite its decor, there is a real sense of ownership its regulars give the large rectangular bar and tiny dance floor. The crowd may be ready for the Dinah Shore Classic Weekend, but Julie's did give it the old college try when recently the ownership tried to reinvent their old piano bar as a younger and hipper venue. It's actually better the old way, without the woefully blasé DJ in the back.
Meow Mix
Location: 269 E Houston St (Suffolk)
Phone #: 212-254-1434
Hours: Tue-Sun 4:30pm-late
Credit Cards: None
Pricing: Inexpensive
The Lowdown: Gen X dyke scene done right with imaginative theme nights.
Meow Mix is the hippest bar on the scene. It's filled to the brim mostly with twenty-somethings sporting great piercings and cute smiles, including the staff. This place hosts the greatest theme nights (Xena Night, Honeycomb Hideout) and fantastic DJ's. Don't blink or you'll miss the multitudes of celebs, gay and straight, dancing the night away.
Mother
Location: 432 W 14th St (Washington)
Phone #: 212-366-5680
Hours: Daily 10pm-late
Credit Cards: None
Pricing: $5 before midnight, $7 after
The Lowdown: Sexiest night of the week for women and their babes.
Mother is the mother of all theme-night clubs, and the mother of all theme nights is Clit Club - the lesbian institution on Friday nights where the hardest beat, most wicked dancers, and horniest women in NYC converge all at once and shake their tail feathers. Sporting a new and improved interior, Mother is bigger and better - three rooms on two floors - each with it's own personality and bar. The performance art that makes it's way on and off stage is almost as addictive as the pounding techno beat. Don't forget the porno movies downstairs, girls!
Rubyfruit Bar
Location: 531 Hudson St (Charles)
Phone #: 212-929-3343
Hours: Daily 3pm-2am, brunch Sun 11:30am-4pm
Credit Cards: Amex, Disc, MC, Visa
Pricing: Expensive
The Lowdown: Sapphic bar and grill to wine and dine your loved one.
This upscale women's bar has a very "regular" feel to it. All three of its levels are very romantic and comfortable, its walls filled with a photo gallery of who's who of the lesbian world. You can sip a martini under a smiling Martina, or look at the signed copy of Rubyfruit Jungle, the bar's namesake, by Rita Mae Brown.
Wonder Bar
Location: 505 E 6th St (West Broadway)
Phone #: 212-777-9105
Hours: Daily 6pm-late, happy hour 6pm-9pm
Credit Cards: None
Pricing: Moderate
The Lowdown: Delightful queer watering hole.
Wonder Bar is more for those wishing to see than be seen, although there's plenty of both at this queer hideaway. The place is filled with gay men and lipstick lesbians who are trying, but not too hard, to be hip in the East Village. Just being at Wonder Bar lets them achieve this goal, a little.
